All of our Antennas use a 3 inch Coil. Our SA-680 is wound with number 10 tinned copper wire at 6 TPI for starters. Our competition uses a 1.750 or 2.000 inch coil. There is no comparison; a larger coil wound with proper coil spacing will produce a stronger signal. This is the reason Hi-Q Antennas have a 5 inch coil! Remember the Bug Catcher mobile antenna? Not very pretty but works well with that huge coil they use!
Antenna testing is done with an Alpha 8100 driven by a Kenwood TS-2000.
Scorpion Antennas are rated at 1500 watts PEPat 1.5:1 VSWR or less!
We have done a lot of destructive testing and know what higher power will do!
Mobile installs: We have received astounding reports from our customers that have either purchased or are using one of our demo antennas on their mobile. Customers report how really satisfied they are with our antennas. They are amazed on how well the antenna receives and the reports they have received on how well it transmits. We use the Icom 706 mark 2-G for our mobile radio of choice. We run 100 watts of power and do not use a mobile RF Amplifier nor do our customers.
While operating mobile we have had operators inquire if we are a base station.
We check in with a 160 meter group early in the morning and one of the retired gentlemen from Texas inquired (how we were able to haul a sixty foot tower in our pickup). We let him know that we have a long trailer!
For Home Use: We install one of our Antennas on a tripod with the counterpoise adaptor and 4 Ham Sticks. We install a 10, 20, 40 and 80 meter Ham Stick and the results are fantastic. A VSWR of 1.5:1 and less can be expected. We have tuned the 40 meter Ham Stick to the point that the needle on our Alpha 4510 VSWR Power Meter will not move. We think 1.0:1 VSWR is a pretty good match! Operators report they are surprised at the performance of the home backyard install.
The Scorpion Quick connect mounting system allows you to move our Antenna from your mobile to your backyard and be on the air in just a few minutes.
Our Antenna is not as efficient as a dipole at 60 feet but it gets you on the air in a Housing Association.
