The Black Widow™ is our powder coated model. All of antennas are available in the Black Widow™ format. As far as paint goes, nothing will last longer or is more durable than powder coating. Motorcycle manufactures through out the world use powder coating on their motorcycle frames. The Lexan® coil cover sports Krylon made for plastic paint. We use the Camouflage "Ultra-Flat"! 
This paint is available at all Ace Hardware and Home Depot stores if a touch up is needed. 

The black Lexan® coil cover not only looks good, it now has excellent protection from the sun. The Black Widow™ might fill the bill for some of the Para Military guys that want that stealth look or just like the looks of this Black Beauty on there rig. What is supplied with our Antennas?

All Scorpion Antennas™ are supplied with a 6 foot whip, 20 feet of antenna control cable, antenna control box, a pre-wired type 31 material choke for the antenna control cable and a cigarette lighter adaptor with built in fuse holder for power to the antenna control box. For mobile installs we supply a shunt coil for impedance matching.

All of our antennas are supplied with a 3/8 by 24 thread heavy duty Stainless coupling nut already installed at the top of the antenna for whip mounting.

Our antenna body is .065 inch wall 304 Stainless Steel.

We use Acetal better known as Dupont Delrin® for the base of the antenna, the motor support, the ball bearing support and the upper coil cap that supports the whip. This material is extremely expensive, it is dense and heavy. Our finger stock and coil support housing is polished 6061-T6 Aluminum. It houses the tin plated finger stock and a one inch wide Phenolic coil support. The housing also works as a heat sink during high power operation. Our finger stock is very expensive special ordered tin plated Beryllium Copper and maintains 37 pounds of combined pressure on the coil at all times.

Yes, all steel gears – not plastic!
We use an Industrial grade Pittman quality motor that uses all steel gears in its gear box. We install capacitors on our motors so tuning the antenna by ear is static free....try that with the BIG Coil antenna manufacture....all you will get is Motor Noise on your Transceiver!  

We use a polished 3/8-16 Stainless all-thread in conjunction with a 3/4 inch piece of threaded oil light Bronze that is the nut.
This assembly moves the coil in and out of the Stainless tube when rotated by the motor. The all-thread is lubricated with very expensive Teflon grease that will withstand -40 to a plus 475 degrees Fahrenheit.

We use a 1/4 inch wall Industrial grade phenolic tube that has a special resin base formula that is manufactured to our specs,
this is our coil form. Our coil alone weighs 4.5 Lbs wound with wire....we use Two Double Sealed Ball Bearings for coil support.

The SA-680 coil is #10 gauge tinned wire wound at 6 threads per inch.
We have wound and tested every size wire at just about every thread pitch you can imagine and testing confirms that #10 gauge wire at 6 TPI on a 3 inch coil always produces the strongest signal!

We use the thickest coil cover in the industry. Our coil cover is made from Lexan, the same material that is used for bullet proof windows on armored trucks. We use .125 inch wall for all of our coil covers .

We are the only manufacture that includes counterpoise or radial connecting bolts built into the base of our antennas. This makes the backyard, field day or camping install of counterpoise wires a snap.

Our antennas have a reed switch installed for use with digital display antenna controllers. We use two magnets mounted on the motor coupling that generate two pulses per revolution.....this equates to better antenna positioning from a Digital Antenna Controller. Ameritron© manufactures two digital display antenna position controllers that work really well. One controller has 10 memory presets and the other is a manual controller with just a digital display.

 Installing your Antenna.

Please remember this antenna weighs 18 pounds and has to have a RIGID MOUNT!

All of our antennas are supplied with the Scorpion Quick Mounting Stud™that is also called the Scorpion Quick Disconnet® feature.

Below are a few helpful mounting ideas.

1.The Scorpion Quick Mounting Stud™ comes with a 3.5 inch long piece of Stainless all-thread that is 3/4-10 TPI screwed inside it. The mounting stud can be mounted to a bumper or a rigid mounting bracket. 
The antenna then can be slid over the mounting stud and the anti rotational RED screw tightened.

We Recommend using nothing smaller than 2 inch by 2 inch by 3/16 inch wall thickness....square tube for all right angle mounts that are attached to the frame of the vehicle and extend out to the side of the vehicle.....Dont take a chance with a lighter or smaller mounting material for your mount....it could break off and go through someones wind shield and kill them! 2. A one inch NPT threaded heavy wall pipe "Electrical or Plumbing type" can be screwed into our one inch Stainless Pipe Adaptor "see our accessories page". The Antenna mounting stud along with the 3/4-10 Stainless all-thread is screwed on to the top of the Stainless Pipe Adaptor. The threaded pipe of your choice is then screwed inside the bottom of the Stainless Pipe Adaptor.

We have customers that use two of the Stainless Pipe Adaptors for mounting the antenna.....one Adaptor is used at the bottom of the antenna and the other is mounted or welded to a plate that is bolted to the vehicle. This allows you to use different length pre-cut and pre-threaded pipe nipple per your install from Home Depot. If the threaded pipe nipple is longer than 6 inches you will have to support the pipe nipple!

Below is a photo of the Scorpion Quick Mounting Stud. The Antenna mounting system uses a 1.4 inch diameter by 4 inch long 6061-T6 Aluminum. "The Scorpion Mounting Stud is also the Scorpion Quick Disconnet™feature for all of our antenna line"!   Once you have a ridge mount for the antenna mounting stud the antenna will then slid over the mounting stud! A 1/4-20 Socket Cap Screw  that is longer than the other counterpoise bolts is marked red. This stops the antenna from rotating. The Mounting Stud is machined to accept a 3/4-10 TPI bolt
or a piece of all-thread. We supply a 3.5 inch piece of 3/4-10 all-thread, washer, lock washer and a nut for antenna mounting.

With the Scorpion Mounting Stud™, you can move your antenna from your vehicle to the backyard in just minutes. Install the antenna onto our Home Install Package® with your tripod, connect the coax, antenna control wire and you’re ready to talk to the world.

We use a Craftsman #3 Phillips for tightening the Scorpion Antenna Mounting Stud™. We think this is one tool that everyone would have in their tool box.
